You are so right. Great post Merc. It's sad when all the artist who had talent and who worked so hard to prove themselves in world they were told they would never make it in. My cousins god father/ family friend is Little Richard and it breaks my heart that he doesn't get as much respect as he should. The genius is running low in our black community. We mos def need to hand this music down to the young ones.

Normally I'd just hit you up on Twitter to give you props but I had to salute you here too. Excellent, excellent post and it's so true. We need to salute our legends now cause I feel cheated. When Gil Scott died, I had said that I wanted to listen more to his music.

I finally listened to more of Prince's albums last year. I need to listen to Stevie's full albums for sure as well as others. It's a warning call to all of us to respect this genius. Thanks for this post man.

Amen, Amen, Amen. Give them their roses while they can still smell and appreciate them.
Thanks for this piece. It has been a tough 3 years. But as long as we keep their music alive... I think we might make it through.

Great post Yohance`. I agree, the next wave of "black film" will embody Dyson's idea of "post-blackness": being rooted in but not restricted by one's "blackness". If major companies refuse to distribute, ah well, this IS the age of social media. Many films have gained buzz through the social media/internet route. With regard to "RedTails", UGH. BAD CASTING. This could have been such a great movie.
